Traveling to a foreign destination is indeed exciting yet can also be dangerous when not well-prepared for. If you’re looking to travel to Tamil Nadu, India, here are some facts you should know about the location.

Tamil Nadu, also known as the Land of Tamils, is a state found in the southern part of India. The location is widely known for its scenic temples and architectures, ethnic food, movies and native Indian dance and musical performances. The dialect spoken in Tamil Nadu are mostly Tamil and English in the bigger cities of the state and its metro capital Chennai, which is also one of India’s four most impressive cities.

Getting to Tamil Nadu can be accessed by means of airplane, rail and road. The Anna International Airport located in Chennai has multiple connections with different Southeastern Asian cities as well as a few European cities, including Frankfurt and London. For train transportation, Tamil Nadu is accessed by Southern Railway and there are multiple trains from Chennai to almost any major city in India, including Erode, Coimbatore and Madurai. By road, Chennai serves as one point to the Golden Quadrilateral operation, which involves the building of limited access separated highways that connect, circumnavigate the core of India.

There are innumerable tourist attraction spots in Tamil Nadu. This includes the beautiful and majestic Thanjavur temples, Palani hill temple, the beautifully sculpted Poompuhar and the famous Thiruchy fort. The state also has a variety of festive events that are related to their religious traditions as well as music and dance festivals. One of the major festivals that the state hosts is the Pongal, the harvest event of Tamil Nadu that’s commemorated during the Thai Tamil month. It is considered as one of the most important occasions for the natives of Tamil Nadu. This particular event is done over a period of four days.

If you’re planning a trip to India using a travel agent or even just your satelliteinternetbroadband.com connection you’ll want to plan ahead. Here are some must-dos before you get on that plane to check out the land of the Tamils.
Get Your Shots: India is known for some pretty gnarly diseases and insect-borne viruses so get whatever inoculations you need before you ship out. Ask your doctor to prescribe you something for intestinal discomfort, too that you can carry with you in case of the inevitable.
Get Your Visa: India requires one of the longest visa lead times of any country you’d want to travel to – get a head start. You may have to contact the Indian embassy in Washington DC so give yourself at least 5 months before your trip to get your paperwork ready.
Get a Guide: If you plan on visiting the land of the Tamils you’ll need a guide to get you there. It’s not a place many outsiders come so you’ll want a local who knows how to respect and honor the group – ask your hotel or travel agent.
